Revenue Journal Settings tell ScaleXP which accounts to post to and how to build your journals. Deferred and accrued revenue share the same settings. You can change them at any time.
1. Open the settings
- On the Journals tab, open Month-End Close.
- Under Revenue, click Open on Deferred Revenue Journal, or on the Post Journal step of the Accrued Revenue Journal.
- Click the three dots at the top right and select Revenue Journal Settings.

2. Set your accounts
- Deferred revenue: under Balance Sheet Account Settings, select the deferred revenue account you chose in Setup 2. If you use more than one, click Map Accounts and see Deferred revenue 1.
- Accrued revenue: select your accrued revenue account.
If an account is locked, contact support@scalexp.com to change it.

3. Add tracking codes or classes, if needed
- Under Tracking Codes, select the Xero tracking categories or QuickBooks classes and locations to include on journal lines, so your segments carry through to your ledger.
- If the field is locked, contact support@scalexp.com.
See How to add Xero tracking codes or QuickBooks classes to revenue journals and How to add location to your journals.
4. Set the calculation method and start date
- Under Journal Calculation, check the method is IFRS / GAAP (backdated revenue pulled forward), so backdated invoices don't change closed months. See How to set journals to IFRS or GAAP rules for backdated revenue. If the setting is locked, contact support@scalexp.com.
- Under Journal Start Date, select the month you chose in Setup 2. To change it later, see How and why to change your journal start date.
- Click Save.
