Stripe: How to automate Xero tracking codes from Stripe metadata

Learn how to import meta data into Stripe for enhanced tracking and organization of payments and transactions.

You can use metadata in Stripe to automate tracking in ScaleXP and your accounting system.  Just follow the steps below to map between Stripe and Xero tracking categories.

First, make sure Xero is set up to receive the metadata

If you've not set up the desired categories of data in your accounting system, see this article from Xero on how to do so:

Once set up, these fields will be automatically added to the invoices generated in your accounting system and synced with ScaleXP reporting.

Next, add the metadata to Stripe

Add the metadata to Stripe at line item level in any of the following ways:

  1. add subscription metadata in Stripe
  2. add metadata to price or line item on the invoice.

See this Stripe article on Metadata parameters.

Finally, map the new fields in ScaleXP

In ScaleXP,  go to Load Data (top bar) → Connections (left sidebar) → Stripe Configure → Map Tracking Codes.

Type in the name of the Stripe metadata category, exactly as you set it up in Stripe.

Invoices will include metadata fields from the time the mapping is complete, using the data associated with the price you have invoiced in Stripe.
