How to customize a chart

Edit a chart series, change colors and names, change data source, filter by subsidiary, adjust date range, configure chart name and axis settings

This article explains how to configure a chart in ScaleXP, including changing data sources, colors, names, date ranges, subsidiary filters, axis settings, and time periods.

Currency and focus date for the whole dashboard

To change the entire dashboard to a different currency or a different focus date, use the dropdown menus at the top right of the dashboard.

How to open chart configuration

To configure a chart, go to Dashboards > three dots (top right of the chart) > Configure chart.

Configure chart option

This opens a sidebar on the left showing each series in the existing chart.

Edit a chart series

Click on the series you wish to edit or delete.

Select a series to edit

You will then see the series options shown below.

Change colors

Click on the colored box to the left of the series name to change the color of the data series. Select a color from the dropdown menu or type in your preferred hex number.

See How to change the colors in a chart or graph for more detail.

To create new charts in your brand colors, use the AI chart generator — see How to create a new dashboard.

Change names

To rename a data series, type a new name in the Series title field. Note that the series name is locked when Show details is selected — in that case all labels are taken from the data detail and can be edited elsewhere in the system.

To rename the chart title, see the Chart name and settings section below.

Change data source

Use the Metric dropdown to select a new data source or formula. You can choose data from your accounting system, CRM, or ScaleXP data from the metric library. Where relevant, select which report to use for that metric.

To create or change a formula, see What is the ScaleXP metric library? and How to edit a metric and change the way it is calculated.

Use the Budget or actuals toggle to switch between the two, under Data to display.

Toggle Show details to include data groupings below the main metric (shown side by side, as separate lines, or stacked, depending on the chart type chosen).

Filter by subsidiary

Use the Subsidiary filter to choose which subsidiaries are included in the data series: one, several, or all. By default, all subsidiaries are included.

The filter is set individually for each series, so you can compare subsidiaries side by side — for example, add a revenue series for each subsidiary on the same chart.

See How to configure your P&L and balance sheet in ScaleXP (consolidated company) for more on multi-entity consolidation.

Change chart type

Use the Display type dropdown to switch between column, line, or stacked column.

Show or hide numbers on the chart

Toggle Show numbers to show or hide data labels for the series. This is set individually for each series.

Use the Position dropdown to choose where the numbers appear: center, inside end, inside base, or outside end.

Change the date range

Click Date range to adjust the date range for the series. Set the number of months before the dashboard focus date (Past months) and after it (Future months).

Remove a chart component

Click the trash can icon to delete the selected data series.

Chart name and settings

Click Chart name and settings (the right button at the top of the sidebar) to access chart-level settings.

Chart name and settings panel

Rename the chart

Type a new name in the Chart name box at the top.

Show or hide summary results

Toggle Show summary results at top to show or hide the summary KPIs displayed at the top of the chart.

Use the dropdown menu and cog icon to edit the content of the summary information shown.

The summary results at the top of the chart can also be filtered by subsidiary. Use the subsidiary options in the summary settings to include one, several, or all subsidiaries.

Change axis names and numbers

Type in the Optional left Y axis label box to set a custom Y axis label.

Toggle Always show zero on left Y-axis to set the Y axis to start at zero or in line with the data.

Change time period

Use the Chart period dropdown to switch between monthly, quarterly, full year, and year to date views (Month, Quarter to date, Quarter, Year to date, Full year).
